Vacation Research Programme

Introduction

The Vacation Research Programme is a program offered to pre-university students (SPM / STPM students) who are keen to pursue a career as a scientist. The program is conducted for 6-8 weeks and housed at :-

  • Health Campus:
    • Department of Neuroscience
    • Neuroscience Research Laboratory
    • Animal Research and Services Center
  • Main Campus
    • Center for Drug Research
    • School of Computer Science

The students involved will be given the opportunity to explore, learn and expose to hands-on activities in conducting research projects. Students will be supervised and trained by scientists with the help of staff in the department as well as undergraduate students.

 

Objective

  1. Encourage the pre-university students to pursue their career in scientific research, especially in neurosciences.
  2. Provides opportunities for pre-university students to learn the techniques of using laboratory tools.
  3. Provided early exposure in conducting research.
  4. Helping students to explore and understand Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), specifically in areas of neurosciences.

 

Application

Applications will be opened only once a year (November) and will be advertised in this website.

** The organizer will be funded ONLY the program fees. Accommodation, transportation and food is under student's purview.

a) Resume (should contain):-
  • Latest passport picture size
  • Name
  • Telephone number
  • Email address
  • Name of schools/collages/universities attended (*please provide SPM/STPM trial result)
  • Academic qualification (PMR/SPM/STPM)
  • Award / Achievements received in Secondary Schools (eg National Chemistry / Olympaid Mathematics etc.)
  • Co-curriculum activities school/community/volunteer/leadership level at the school / year (eg: President of Science Club) etc.)
  • Academic referee - at least one (name, title, address, telephone number and email address) - Academic referee should not be from family members

b) Short essay (500 words) with title:-

"Why I want to participate in the Vacation Research Programme and how it gives me a unique experience"

Please attach your trial exam transcript if you have not received the actual exam transcript
